This article describes a dual-pulse excimer-laser-based imaging system used in the determination of ejected material velocities resulting from the interaction of KrF laser radiation (lambda = 248 nm, pulse width FWHM = 17 ns, I about equal 10 to the 11th power W/sq sm) with 20-microns aluminum particles under vacuum (P = .00001 Torr) conditions. Material velocities measured 200-400 ns after arrival of the incident ranged from 450 to 1200 m/s. Reprints. (JHD)
