The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform Technique when applied to the transmission of gray scale imagery via Group 4 facsimile. The Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform is a gray scale and/or color coding technique showing the promise of large compression ratios and good picture quality for the coding and transmission of pictorial data.
