Team Performance in Dynamic Decision Making: The Importance of Heuristics

The utility of heuristics was examined in the context of a complex, dynamic, three-person team decision-making task. Four information presentation schemes were utilized for both moderate and fast information presentation rates across four test performance sessions. Overall team performance was improved through the provision of decision-aiding heuristics regardless of the presentation format, particularly for the moderate information presentation rate. Heuristics also helped to reduce biases associated with dealing with uncertain targets. Relative to teams without heuristics, teams with heuristics were more likely to query uncertain targets and more likely to complete targets in accordance with their expected values.
