Synthesis of Radiolabeled Chemical Agents/Precursors

A total of eight compounds were prepared under the subject contract. These are: (methyl-3H) and (methyl-14C)GB, (methyl-3H) and (methyl-14C)GD, (methyl-3H) and (methyl-14C)VX, (UL-3H) and (UL-14C)mustard. In addition to the above, and toward the end of the contract period, attempts were made to prepare the four optical isomers of soman (GD). Although this work could not be completed prior to the expiration of the contract, significant progress was made. Conditions were developed which afforded material of reasonable (> 90%) optical purity. However, a need exists to optimize the yields which, to date, are quite low (< 20%).
