Investigations of Polarized Light Scattering from Rough Surfaces.

Polarized light scattering at two visible wavelengths from natural and fabricated surfaces is investigated before and after contamination by liquids of different optical properties. Measurements of the Mueller matrix elements were performed from such surfaces, demonstrating a time dependence of scattering as the liquid diffuses into the surface. The matrix elements found most sensitive to the liquid's presence were also isolated for more detailed analysis.
