Domestic Production and National Security-Is There a Connection? A Case Study of SEMATECH Research Consortium.

摘要

This thesis examines the relationship between domestic industrial production and national security as they relate to strategically-vital defense products. An analysis of the semiconductor industry through a case study of the semiconductor research and development consortium, SEMATACH (Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology Institute) is conducted to determine the viability of this type of organization to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing. The objective of this thesis is to determine the need, if any, for increased Federal Government support of research consortia in encouraging domestic manufacturing capability of vital defense products.
