摘要

The electro-oxidation of glucose is of special interest because of the need for a glucose sensor. While most earlier studies have used platinum electrodes the present study has indicated that the gold electrode is more active for glucose oxidation in neutral (pH 7.4) and alkaline electrolytes, which make it an alternative possibility for sensor applications. The glucose oxidation has been examined on the three low index Au surfaces and six higher index surfaces from the zone and the kinetics found to be strongly dependent on the surface orientation. It is proposed that the structural sensitivity is associated with the formation of an absorbed AuOH layer.
