摘要

A variety of microscopies (light, scanning electron, transmission electron, fluorescence, and environmental scanning electron) were used to demonstrate morphological characteristics of nutritional sustainment module (NSM) extrudates and infusates. The microscopic data proves that internal cell wall pores measuring less than 1.0 micrometer exist. Also, uniform infusion takes place when there is communication between cell wall pores and the much larger external pores. Some of the methods used should prove helpful in selecting optimum extrudate/infusate formulations.
