Most studies have employed cell damage or death as a means of evaluating the photo-toxicity of blue light on the pigment epithelium. We chose to investigate the effects of blue light on the functional properties of the isolated bovine pigment epithelium as manifested in the electrical parameters and transport of leucine and chloride. Figure 1.
