摘要

Throughout the oceans and atmosphere relatively thin current layers flow inotherwise quiescent surroundings. These layers vary in thickness from centimeters to tens of meters and may extend in range from tens to hundreds of kilometers. In this paper, we present a direct method and a simple inverse method that can be used to determine the velocity profile of a shear layer. Specifically, we consider an infinite acoustic medium, with constant density and sound speed, containing a free shear layer of infinite extent.
