Facile Inventory Database Management Systems for Small Computer Needs

Two database systems, an Inventory Database Management System and a Hand ReceiptDatabase Management System, were developed for use by the Military Ergonomics Division. These programs, written in dBase IV, are useable on a desk top computer for persons with little experience in computer operating systems. As Oracle becomes available in the future, these programs will be recoded for use with that software. This system is useful in that it allows the user to edit, manipulate and make inquires on the databases. On-line help and interactive menu screens make the system easy to use. Related to the Inventory Database Management System, is a dBase IV Database Save/Combine function. These commands, accessed through dBase IV macros, allow the user to (1) save the databases periodically and to proceed with new, empty databases and (2) to combine databases from different periods. These programs are not restricted for use only to Military Ergonomics Division purposes; they can be readily adapted for any inventory or database management purpose. With appropriate modifications, the system should complement main frame systems presently in use. Inventory control; Database management dBase programming; PC systems; Data organization.
