摘要

The purpose of this study was to determine the most appropriate organizationalstructure and alignment for a managed care office at Keller Army Community Hospital (KACH), West Point, N.Y. The study methodology relied on an extensive literature search, interview with key personnel and direct observations. I used the Structural Design Model designed by Jan Galbraith (1971) and Richard Daft (1989) to determine the most appropriate organizational structure for the managed care office. Using the results of the Structural Design Model, I developed several organizational alignment alternatives. I then used the problem solving process to determine my data analysis. I concluded that the managed care office should be organized as a matrix structure and aligned as a separate entity under the Deputy Commander for Administration (DCA). This recommended organizational structure and alignment will enhance operations for the managed care office and optimize coordination among the applicable hospital departments. This study validated Health Services Command's (HSC) decision regarding the structure for a similar office; however, I proposed an alternative alignment model that is more appropriate for this office.
