Optimization of Simulation-Based Training Systems: Model Data Collection andUtilization

The goals of this effort were (1) to develop a method for collecting necessaryinternal, resident data and constructing rules for Optimization of Simulation Based Training Systems (OSBATS) models; (2) to specify and develop a system for managing the data elements and formats for the resident database; and (3) to collect, convert, and enter data and rules in the recommended database system as a prototype demonstration. The data collection method was developed centered on interviews and survey questionnaires that could be used to acquire the detailed information needed by the OSBATS models. A prototype database to contain the necessary information was constructed and loaded with the existing and newly gathered information. Researchers concluded that the information could be collected with great effort, and stored in a database for use by the models. Several problems in the separate implementation of decision aid (OSBATS) and database were identified. The use of survey information for rule construction was illustrated, and the potential for expanding OSBATS was presented.
