Successful Aztreonam Treatment of Acute Typhoid Fever After ChloramphenicolFailure

Aztreonam treatment was successful in 4 cases of typhoid fever. The patients wereseriously ill with growth of Salmonella typhi in blood cultures despite treatment with chloramphenicol. Aztreonam appears to be a useful alternative to standard therapy of typhoid fever. This report is from the Abbassia Fever Hospital, Ministry of Health, Cairo, Egypt.
