摘要

Archeological data recovery by controlled surface collection was conducted atsite 23SO496 by Mid-Continental Research Associates, Inc. for the Memphis District, Corps of Engineers. The controlled surface collection was made in the impact zone that will be adversely affected by equipment tracking over the site when the river is enlarged. The controlled surface collection precisely defined three edges of the site. The analysis of the assemblages indicates use of the site from Early Archaic through Mississippian times. The primary use of the site was for procurement of Crowley's Ridge chert gravels. Comparisons to the assemblages recovered at the County Line site and upland chert procurement sites suggest that the main objective of the procurement was for cores, which were further reduced elsewhere.
