Evaluating a HEMP-Hardened Signal Entry TPD Enclosure.

Working within the sponsorship and authority of the Naval Electronics Engineering Activity, Pacific (NEEACTPAC), personnel of the Harry Diamond Laboratories (HDL) evaluated the performance of a prototype signal entrance enclosure exposed to transient signals related to high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP). This report discusses the prototype enclosure design, supporting laboratory experiments, and data analysis, such as (1) shielding effectiveness, (2) degree of transient suppression as provided by internal terminal protection device (TPD) circuits, (3) response to high transient current levels, and (4) discrepancies and methods for improvements.
