摘要

The results of previous research suggested that possession of tertiary educational qualifications modifies officer attitudes towards the Service. The results of the present analysis confirmed that such effects can be partially attributable to age and to branch membership. Attitudes of younger, tertiary qualified officers towards the Navy are likely to be more volatile than those of their age-peers who do not possess a tertiary level of education. Members of the Executive branch however appear to be comparatively immune from these influences. It was argued that the potential marketability in civilian life of the particular tertiary qualification held may play some part in the generation of officer attitudes towards the Services. Some reflections on Australian military attitude surveys are included. Keywords: Officer retention surveys. (kr)
