Nonlabelled and tritium labelled dihydromicrocystin-LR (2H-MCLR) were produced byreacting MCLR with sodium borohydride and 3H-sodium borohydride, respectively. Chemical purity in excess of 99% and radiochemical purity of over 98% were demonstrated with TLC, HPLC, and mass spectrometry. The labelled toxin was stable for two wk in ethanol at -20C and significant, biological instability of the label was not apparent as indicated by the presence of tritiated water in urine of dosed animals.
