Photochemical and thermal reactions of small amounts (0.25-2wt%) of polynuclearmetal carbonyls (Ru3(CO)12,Fe3)CO12,OS3(CO)12,CO2(CO)8,CO4(CO)12,Rh6(CO)16) serve to cross-link Si-H containing organosilicon polymers. As a result, when the products of these reactions are pyrolyzed, the ceramic residue yields are increased considerably over those obtained with the original polymers. The organosilicon polymers studied most were the Nicalon polycarbosilane and the (CH3SiH)x(CH3SI)y)n polysilane. (js)
