Clinical Utility of Fungal Screening Assays in Adults with Severe Burns.

Fungal wound infections lead to significant morbidity and mortality in burn patients, Diagnosis continues to be made with culture and histopathology, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Only one study has examined fungal screening assays in burn patients, but previous literature has shown that in patients with a high prevalence of fungal infection (i.e. hermatopoetic stem cell transplant patiences (HSTC)), fungal screening assays can be of use in diagnosis.
