Marksmanship Aiming and Tracking Analysis System.

Scientists from the U.S. Army Project Manager for Training Devices (PM TRADE), the U.S. Army Human Engineering Laboratory (HEL), and Advanced Technology, Incorporated (ATI) worked together to design and implement a computer program to develop a data base for understanding M16A1 rifle aiming and tracking. This program was designed to run on an IBM PC-AT compatible computer. Several studies using this program examined aiming error as a function of firing position, practice, apparent target size, trigger activation, rifle noise, ballistics, muzzle deflection, target angular rate, and target engagement time. The goal of these aiming error studies was to integrate the aiming and tracking data into a quantitative model of performance.
