摘要

A theoretical investigation was carried out involving the preliminary developmentof a novel three dimensional nonlinear approximation method capable of rapidly determining approximate solutions for highly nonlinear flows such as typically occur in turbo machinery applications. The ultimate goal of the study was the preliminary demonstration of the accuracy and utility of such a method in the three dimensional turbomachinery design environment. The specific objectives of the present investigation were the theoretical development of the three-dimensional approximation procedure for highly sensitive, nonlinear flows involving multiple shock waves, combination of the approximation method with a nonlinear three dimensional supercritical transonic flow solver, coupling of the combined approximation method and nonlinear flow solver with an optimization design procedure, and finally testing of the complete approximation/flow solver/optimization code on problems relevant to the turbomachinery design environment.
