Serpent: Dialogue Editor User's Guide. System for User Interface Development.Version 1

This guide introduces the Serpent dialogue editor, which is used to communicatethe dialogue between the end user and the functional, or application, portion of a system. This dialogue specifies both the presentation of application information and end-user interactions. Put differently, the dialogue editor provides an environment in which to develop and maintain Slang dialogue specifications. Most of what is built in the editor translates directly into Slang, the Serpent dialogue specification language. That is, the Slang code generated from the dialogue editor can be compiled and run to produce the user interface for an application. Although the dialogue editor hides much slang syntax, users of the editor should understand the conceptual model of Slang, as well as the syntax of code snippets and expressions that are used to define much of the interactive behavior.
