An isolate of Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid. has demonstrated potential asa biocontrol agent for the noxious submersed aquatic macrophyte Hydrilla verticillata (L.F.) Royle in recent studies. The purpose of this study was to follow the histology of infection of H. verticillata by M. phaseolina with particular attention to the chronology of attachment, penetration, and colonization during the early stages of pathogenesis.
