摘要

Vibrational relaxation (VR) and multiphonon up pumping play an important role indetermining the behavior of molecules in solids just behind the shock front, and the properties of the front itself. Although ultrafast VR studies are not new, the more difficult up pumping experiments are only now becoming feasible. Recent results on molecular materials are presented and the relationship between this work and the understanding of shock wave dynamics and shock-induced chemistry is discussed here.
