This chapter focused on four studies that addressed salient issues involvingindividual differences in student cognitive characteristics and performance in a computer-managed instructional environment. The first study investigated whether cognitive styles, abilities, and aptitudes are dependent or independent. The second study addressed individual differences in student characteristics and computer-managed mastery learning. The third investigation considered changes in the cognitive components of achievement as students proceed through computer-managed instruction. The fourth investigation considered crystallized and fluid intelligence in computer-managed instruction. computer-managed instruction; individual differences; cognitive characteristics.
