Application of Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar in the Maritime Environment

A review of the principles of spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is given,and its application in the maritime environment is discussed, with reference to several specific systems. The requirement for calibration is discussed, as are some of the more advanced techniques expected to be incorporated in future missions.
