New Leader: a Documentary on the Orleans ROTC Battalion

This thesis describes the background and production of a film project. Thepurpose of this project is to demonstrate to the military an alternative to community relations video projects. It is also a means that the military, some day, could move the production of such programs down to a lower level, justified by lowered cost. The driving factor in the design of New Leader is the use of interviews of non-actors. This design builds a structure that provides direct and simple information, at the same time providing entertainment. The 30:00 minute broadcast documentary is a method that large broadcast agencies are using to attract viewers. The military has the resources, the technology, and the talent to pursue this type of programming. The present day canned informational military programs provide the necessary information, yet seem to lack the structure that could capture and hold the attention of target audiences. New Leader has been used by the Orleans ROTC Battalion for recruiting students and briefing incoming personnel.
