Techniques for Estimating the Effects of Man-Made Radio Noise on DistributedMilitary Systems

This paper reviews techniques available for estimating the effects of man-maderadio noise on distributed military systems using empirical man-made noise models. The models given in CCIR Report 258 are reviewed along with the empirical data base upon which they are based. Results of measurements of man-made noise are presented for six Pacific ocean sites and for three Atlantic Ocean/Europe sites. Accumulative probability distribution models of increasing complexity are reviewed. Tests of fit of these distributions are presented for select samples of measured man-made noise data.
