Synthesis and Structure of the First Base-Free Diphosphadigalletane

Reaction of t-BuGaCI2 with LiP(H)Ar'(Ar'= 2,4,6-t-Bu3C6H2) affords thebis(phosphido)gallane monomer, t-BuGaP(H)Ar'12 (1). Thermolysis of 1 results in elimination of ArPH2 and conversion to (t-BuGaPAr')2 (2), the first base-free diphosphadigalletane. The structures of 1 and 2 have been determined by X-ray analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group P21/a with a = 21.05(3) A.
