The EKXL code is a 1-D radially-dependent Poisson-solver. It gives staticsolutions for potential and density distributions, given edge density specifications for these parameters. It is a 'point' model in that spatial variations of externally-imposed fields is possible, but spatial dependence of inter-particle interaction phenomena can not be accommodated as an integral part of code operations. KXL uses the same mathematical engine developed in the XL code and a series of intermediate steady-state solutions over time to reach the final steady-state condition for the given input parameters. Selected parameters, such as input current and the length of the time step, can be adjusted as the calculation proceeds. This method and some of the improvements discussed allow the code to reach much higher core densities than were possible with XL.
