Quantitation of Leukocyte Adherence to Endothelial Cells

Recent research on the molecular mechanisms by which leukocytes adhere toactivated endothelial cells during the inflammatory process has demonstrated that several different mechanisms for recognition and attachment are involved and that either the endothelial cell or the neutrophil can initiate adherence. These studies have been substantially aided by in vitro methods that allow for rapid and reliable quantitation of leukocyte adherence; this core technique is central to continued progress in this area of research. This article reviews and compares methods for quantitating leukocyte adherence to endothelial cells in vitro.
