This program started with objectives to: (a) improve existing laboratory facilities to enhance research capabilities, (b) create interest of science and engineering among undergraduate students, (c) conduct analytical and experimental works on localized deformation in fatigue. Though we have been able to do quite well in improving the laboratory facilities, frequent breakdown and malfunction of our servohydraulic testing machine have halted our progress in experimentations with titanium alloys. To avoid such unfortunate situations in the future, measures are now being taken to further improve our current facilities. Emphasis is placed on the analytical efforts which have yielded two technical papers thus far.
