Micro Computer Based Procurement System: An Application of Reverse EngineeringTechniques

The Department of the Navy has developed a system called the Automation ofProcurement and Accounting Data Entry (APADE), which automates the procurement of nonstandard materials. Small Navy Field contracting locations, however, cannot afford to utilize this service, and the Navy currently has no standard micro computer software for such procurement. This thesis analyzes and reviews the Navy's APADE procurement system using a reverse engineering approach. It establishes an entity relationship model from the existing APADE flat files. This entity relationship model is then used to design and implement a prototype of the APADE system small procurement module on micro computers. The prototype micro computer version emulates the small procurement functions of the mainframe system.
