Photoionization of Excited States of Atomic Nitrogen

The R-matrix method is used to obtain cross sections for the photoionization ofthe 2s2 2 p3 2 Do , 2po2 ; 2S2 2p 2(3 P)3 S 4p, 2 P: 2s2p 4 P, and 2s2p2(3p)3p2So p 2 So excited states of atomic nitrogen. Excellent accord is found with the calculation of Zeippen et al for the 2D deg and 2p deg metastable states and the cross sections for these two states are now believed known to a high degree of accuracy. The cross section for the 2S deg state differs from previous calculations and for this state a calculation is also performed for the asymmetry parameter beta and the results found to differ significantly from earlier work.
