The primary purpose of the present study was to gain additional evidence for theexistence of two types of Ca(2+)-dependent K(+) currents in Betz cells by direct measure of the currents. We also wished to examine the apparent kinetics of the two components in more detail and to discover whether they differed in other properties, such as voltage dependence or sensitivity to other pharmacological agents. Recently, we found that a low concentration of the Ca(2+) chelator bis-(o-aminophenoxy)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (BAPTA) in the recording microelectrode resulted, paradoxically, in a greatly enhanced Ca(2+)-dependent AHP (Schwindt et al. 1992).
