Multiple Forecasting Techniques for Fuels

This report documents the results of a study examining the multiple forecastingmodel on fuel sales data and demonstrates improvements in forecasting accuracy that could be realized through the use of the multiple forecasting techniques. More accurate forecasts of demands at the Defense Fuel Supply Points and other customer locations will allow the Defense Fuel Supply Center to better support them by lower fuel movements, fewer emergency shipments and fuel purchases, and perhaps lowered inventory levels resulting from reduced safety level requirements. The report demonstrates that the multiple forecasting technique often provides a more accurate forecast than current system and recommends to the Inventory Management Division of the Directorate of Supply Operations use of the Fuels Multiple Forecasting Model on a test basis.
