摘要

The most compelling evidence for the role of cortical interconnections inintegrating visual perception comes from visual psychophysics, in particular, from a set of visual illusions known as subjective contours. The use of illusions allows the intrinsic operations of the visual system to be elicited in the absence of direct external stimulation. In fact, as Ramachandran (1986) and others have pointed out, these types of illusions are not 'illusory' at all; rather, they reflect the same operations that are normally carried out in response to 'real' stimuli. Thus, illusions can provide a deep insight into the fundamental workings of the visual system.
