Uniqueness of a Psychomotor Construct to ASVAB

Computerized administration of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery(ASVAB) potentially offers several benefits over the current paper-and-pencil administration. One benefit is the possible expansion of predictor tests beyond the dominant mathematical and verbal orientation of the ASVAB. This research memorandum first examines the comparability of measurement of the computerized and paper-and-pencil tests. Second, several new tests that measure psychomotor skills (hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity) are examined for their ability to expand the range of dimensions currently assessed by the ASVAB, as well as to improve the predicting of performance in mechanical maintenance jobs....
