摘要

One objective of this study was to quantify the dollar amount of savings that theNavy could expect if they return their expired pharmaceutical products. Another objective was to determine whether it is cost effective to contract civilian services for the return and disposal of these expired products. The scope of the study was limited to the continental United States Naval Military Treatment Facilities (CONUS MTFs). Based on inferential methods in linear regression, it was determined that the dollar amount that the Navy can expect to recoup, through the return of their expired pharmaceuticals at CON-US MTFs, is over two million dollars per year. Also, after analyzing and comparing four alternatives, a conclusion was made that contracting civilian services would be the most cost effective method for the return and disposal of expired Navy pharmaceutical products. A recommendation was made that the Navy initiate a universal policy directing the return and disposal of expired pharmaceutical products utilizing civilian services.
