Computer Simulation of the Underwater Detection of Sperm Whales UsingModifications of Line Transect Theory

摘要

The underwater acoustical detection of sperm whales and the estimation of theirpopulation density in the ocean environment is simulated using QBASIC program code. The program is designed to imitate the known behavior of sperm whales and the randomness of the natural environment encountered in the field. A ship-towed linear hydrophone array is modeled for detection of the whales. The program uses the basic theory of line transect sampling.
