摘要

Wireless networks offer an attractive alternative to physical cabling for rapiddeployment systems, emphasizing ease of installation and configuration maintenance. The Motorola Altair wireless in-building network (WIN) offers the additional benefit of compatibility with existing Ethernet devices and wired segments, allowing it to grow as required. Tests were performed to determine the performance capabilities of the WIN system versus wired-Ethernet-configurations. For these tests, the WIN components were integrated into several typical Ethernet topologies that were compared against equivalent wired topologies. Performance was measured using the elapsed time required for a single file transfer as simulated background traffic was increased. Results show that for average Ethernet utilization under 2 Mbits per second, the WIN system performs as well as a wired topology, although individual instances of poor performance may be experienced. In topologies where traffic is routed across a path operating at less than 2 Mbits per second, such as T1 data link; the WIN system is essentially transparent to the network. Performance within the WIN microcell is optimum for handshaking protocols implemented with small to medium-sized Ethernet packets.... Wireless network, In-Building network, Ethernet.
