The purpose of this demonstration was to determine the suitability of pre-paintedmetal and adhesively bonded assemblies for military application. Thirty-six test doors were fabricated for the M939A2 5-ton truck family. Thirteen doors were standard production doors and twenty-three doors utilized adhesive bonding principles. The test door skins were fabricated from cold rolled steel, coil coated cold rolled steel, coil coated galvanized steel, and galvanized sheet steel. The test doors were coil coated with either Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) Primer, revised flexible primer, or were E-coated (electro-deposition). Internal surfaces of adhesively bonded test doors were E-coated or left unpainted. Standard production doors received normal primer and internal rust proofing. All doors received a topcoat of CARC paint on external surfaces. Doors were subjected to Accelerated Corrosion and Durability Test. Marine Exposure Test was conducted at Cape Canavaral, Florida. Military User Testing (installed on normal use military vehicles) was performed at Camp LaJeune, North Carolina. Coil coating, Galvanizing, E-Coat, Adhesive assembly.
