Research on microwave propagation, reflection, absorption and backscatter in XUV excimer laser (193 run) and microwave (2.45 GHz) produced plasmas has been carried out. Our research on high density, low temperature (n(e) = 5 x 10(exp 13)/cu cm, 1 eV) laser-created plasma and broadband (1-3 GHz) microwave transmission, absorption and backscatter between two antennas in a plasma are described. Research on the creation of a laser produced sheet beam plasma for either a low loss, rapidly scanable agile microwave mirror reflector (10 GHz) or a diffuse, lossy absorber is being carried out. Measurements and theoretical analysis of these topics are described. We also discuss our collaborations with other research groups and our theoretical and computational research to support and interpret the experimental observations.
