The approach taken in this work was to measure hearing statistics for MK-84pingers over a long period of time using actual Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) operations conducted on the Barking Sands Underwater Range Expansion (BSURE) underwater range. From July 1989 to April 1990, hearing range statistics were generated for submarines, MK-30 targets, and torpedoes in a variety of sea states to form probability-of-detection curves. These curves were then used to predict the tracking characteristics of a large-area range. Underwater range, Hearing statistics.
