Only Version 1.1 has been signed out by OSD. The TAFIM provides guidance for theevolution of the DoD technical infrastructure. The TAFIM does not provide a specific system architecture. Rather, it provides the services, standards, design concepts, components, and configurations that can be used to guide the development of technical architectures that meet specific mission requirements. This volume provides a common conceptual framework, defines a common vocabulary, and specifies a base of standards so that the diverse components within DoD can better coordinate acquisition, development, and support of DoD information systems. It also provides a high-level representation of the information system domain showing major service areas.
