摘要

Deep-water measurements were obtained from a closely spaced hydrographic sectionthat crossed the Japan Trench and the Kuroshio in the vicinity of the Kashima 1 Seamount. Vertical sections of temperature, salinity, density, oxygen, and nutrients are discussed for water below 1 000 m. Hydrographic properties are perturbed in the vicinity of the seamount. Contrasting variabilities are found in the deep-water characteristics northwest and southeast of the seamount. Geostrophic calculations and properties suggest a mean deep-northward flow greater than 3 cm/s between 3000 m and 5800 m just east of the seamount. At the northwestern extreme of the section the existence of a southward-flowing Deep Western Boundary Current is suggested by silica distributions, as well as the dynamical properties.
