Selected Special-Purpose Telecommunications Circuits

This report discusses disconnecting special-purpose voice circuits that are no longer required by the Departments of the Army and Navy. Six DoD installations were paying about $61,248 annually for nine special purpose voice circuits that were no longer required. Those circuits either were no longer needed to support a telecommunications mission or were no longer being used. When this condition was brought to management's attention at each installation, management took action to disconnect the circuits. The disconnection of those circuits will reduce long-haul communications costs by about $386,000 for a 72-month period ending in FY 2000.
