Toughening of Nylon 6/Polypropylene Blends

Nylon 6/polypropylene blends were toughened using both maleated randomethylene/propylene copolymer (EPR-g-MA) and styrene/ethylene-butene block copolymer (SEBS-g-MA). Room temperature impact strength showed a similar trend for both rubbers. However, the ductile to brittle transition temperatures were lower for blends based on EPR-g-MA. Blends where nylon 6 is the continuous phase, and the rubber and polypropylene are separately dispersed, showed the lowest ductile-brittle transition temperature.
