Independence-Westport Road Crossing and Other Oregon/Santa Fe Trail AlternativesNational Register Assessment

The major focus of this investigation is on the history and National Register ofHistoric Places assessment of the Independence Westport Road Crossing site within the Blue River Flood Protection Project Area, near 27th and Topping, in the Blue Valley Park, Kansas City, MO. It is recommended that this site be considered potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places for its role as a transportation and trade route, which would include being used by Santa Fe and Oregon bound travelers; for being the site of the Mormon Blue River settlement; and for being part of the Civil War battlefield.
